I thank you for visiting the website of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Nigeria. UNIMED is Nigeria’s first specialized Medical University, that was established in 2015 with the goal to offer exceptionally high-quality multi-disciplinary training and research in all health sciences fields. From its modest beginning, our University has evolved into one of the most promising and sought after tertiary institutions that provide access to comprehensive health sciences education to a broad range of students.
The University's six foundation Faculties—Natural Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences—demonstrate the power of interdisciplinary education with a commitment to high academic excellence, social cohesion, and integrity. Our students come from a variety of social backgrounds. We offer excellent lifetime social and educational experiences that position graduates to solve the immediate and future health care needs and the developmental challenges of society. We focus on gender equity and social justice in the management of the University, the selection of students, and the recruitment of staff. As such, nearly 55 percent of our students in 2019 are women.
The development of a high profile community that stimulates knowledge, health skills, entrepreneurship, and leadership development is my top priority. I promise to continue that tradition while innovating and offering a bold and renewed vision to strengthen the University and improve the outcomes for our students and staff.
Establishing the University under the foundational tripod of Transparency, Effectiveness, and Accountability (the TEA Agenda) is my legacy which I believe will strongly position the University to remain in good standing for all time. I hope to personally welcome students, staff, potential investors and donors to our University in due course. I thank you all and please accept my warmest regards.
Sincerely,
Adesegun Olayiwola FATUSI, B.Sc., MBChB, MPH, FWACP
Vice-Chancellor, UNIMED
