Aniefiok is interested in understanding the molecular, genetic and epigenetic landscape that modulates disease onset in West Africa, which is largely underrepresented in genetic research, despite increasing disease burden. Due to high genetic variations in the African population, I believe that characterizing the genome of the West African population, including investigating the epigenome and others omics landscape, could lead to identification of new disease loci. Studies on genetic and environmental interactions will highlight risk factors for diseases such as breast cancer and could reveal novel signatures that lead to genomic instability in breast oncogenesis and reproductive cancers. As a population Geneticist, studies to understand the molecular epidemiology of human health, disease dynamics and environmental impact, to develop strategies that would reduce disease burden in Africa are of particular interest to me. I love cooking, nature walk, reading, singing, playing the violin and scrabble, and discovering new people, places and things.
