The domains of molecular bioscience and medical genomics have become highly relevant in contemporary health care.  The application and integration of genomic and other data — including functional genomics, genome structure, genome-scale population genetics, epigenomics, proteomics, systems analysis and pharmacogenomics is now central to understanding the genetic bases of drug response and disease.  UniMed as a tertiary institution focused on health is uniquely positioned to bring this domain of medicine and health care to Ondo state and environs. 

The Centre for molecular bioscience and medical genomics (The Centre) was established by UniMed in 2020 to facilitate innovation and research at the university, as well as enhance entrepreneurship and social innovation in health.  Specifically, The Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Medical Genomics aims to serve as a university wide resource for teaching, research, medical diagnostics and scientific entrepreneurship. The overarching objective is to render community service to improve health care in Ondo state and Nigeria in general.
