Mojisola Asowata-Ayodele is a Lecturer in the Department of Biosciences and Biotechnology (Plant Biotechnology Unit), Faculty of Science. My research foci as evidenced in the following fields of studies which include Plant ecology, Phytomedicine, therapeutics, Pharmacology and toxicology including bioprospecting to novel drugs from medicinal plants. My publications have encompasses in the following areas: i) Essential oil-containing plants (fruits and Spices) ii) Ethnobotanical survey iii) Ethnopharmacological studies iv) Antimicrobial studies of medicinal plants. v) Plant Ecology Through my first publication on Ethnobotanical survey of culinary herbs and spices used in the traditional medicinal system of Nkonkobe Municipality, Eastern Cape, South Africa, published in South African Journal of Botany, I was able to establish a database for ethnobotanical remedies for various illness through the use of spices among the people of Eastern Cape Province and Municipality. This has helped the community to incorporate some of commonly used spices in their daily meal. My study on foliar micromorphogy of some spices (Lippia javanica and Foeniculum vulgare) have helped to show some promising plant trichomes in the leaves, which has been cited by many scholars and useful in the disseminating of information on essential oil. My research work has also provided some justification for industrial processing of some selected medicinal plants into consumable and marketable products in forms of tablets, powders, decoctions, infusions in line with good manufacturing practice using appropriate equipment. This has helped the products comparable with orthodox medicines and will make traditional medicine more relevant to the local communities in a developing country like Nigeria. I currently anchored a women leading programme where I teach women on the use of medicinal plants for both economic and industrial purposes online. My research also focus on development of database for local control of pesticidal properties of medicinal plants and their uses in Biotechnology. My research works have provided the scientific justification for the use of several plants in industry and ethnobotany as flavouring and phyto-therapy agents. As a teacher of knowledge for several years, I have been able to impacts and arose students’ interests in further study of my itemized areas of studies.
