Engr-Dr Ifeolu Kehinde Adewumi started his career as a Health Officer after obtaining the London Royal Society's Health Inspector's Diploma for the Promotion of Health in West Africa (1972-78) in old Oyo State. He then gained admission to University of Ife, Ile-Ife to study BSc Environmental Health and Epidemiology (1978-82) and did his NYSC year at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah Benue State and was retained as the Institution's first Environmental Health Officer (19982-87) when he returned to study MSc Environmental Health in his old Department and Got the University Fellowship Grant for his study. He started lecturing initially as Part time staff in his Department before his appointment as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering in December 1990 and rose to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2004 before he got appointment as a Professor of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering at the Niger Delta University's Civil Engineering Department. He was instrumental to the first accreditation of the Civil Engineering Program in the University and served as Head of the Department for three years as he did at OAU for more than 12 years. He believes in the Welfare of workers and had been involved in leadership within the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and was a two-term Chairman and member of the National Executive Council of ASUU before he transfered his Service and later voluntarily retired from the Federal Service. dabbled into politics as the Flag bearer for a Christian Party (Providence People's Congress -PPC) and came sixth in the election that brought in APC's Alhadji Oyetola in Osun State in 2018. Since then he has focused on developing his Companies and managing his global NGO Greener Environment and Materials Sustainability Initiative (GEMS). Prof Adewumi has held International appointment as Co-Chair of Africa Eco-Labeling Mechanism based in Kenya (2014-16), served as President of African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production established by the Marakech Process through UNEP. Ife has over 70 scholarly Journal articles and Conference Papers, attended several International Conferences relating to his research foci on Water Treatment and Saitation facilities, Low cost Housing development including a World-Bank funded Research on production of organic fertilizer (and biogas) from municipal wastes and livestock manure. In Community Services, he played prominent role in getting the Federal Environment Council to set up the Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production Centre (RECPC) through the support of both UNIDO and UNEP. He is also an Ordained Minister since 2005 in the Foursquare Gospel Church Organization and a passionate Youth Minister. He is presently working on Non-Incineration heat processing of wastes to minimize ozone layer depletion and recycling of single use polymers into engineering materials.
