Dr. Ibukun Modupe Adesiyan is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, School of Public Health, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo. She has B.Sc., M.Sc., Microbiology and Ph.D., Ecology and Environmental Sciences; all bagged from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. She had her Ph.D. research fellowship at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) Water Quality Monitoring Center, University of Fort Hare, South Africa under the auspices of the Organization of Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). Her area of research is a member of several professional bodies including the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA), the Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM), and the Society for Applied Microbiology (SFAM), UK. Dr. Ibukun is a Registered Environmental Health Officer and a licensed environmental health specialist in Nigeria. She has taken part in a series of collaborative research in her field including a multidisciplinary research project titled: Sustainable Resource Future in a Circular Economy: Data and Systems-Mapping for Improving Developing Country Circular Economies through an award of £19,984 by the Royal Academy of Engineering UK through their Frontiers of Development research seed fund (FoD-2021-5-8). She is also a recipient of several grants including the capacity building fund Award of £5000 by the Society for Applied Microbiology, UK, and EUR3050 by the Federation of European Microbiology both towards the cost of research titled: Metagenomic analysis of microbiome and resistomes communities in the rhizosphere: a meta-analysis of agricultural samples at the UFZ-Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research, Leipzig, Germany (2022). Award of $30,000.00, Postgraduate Training Fellowship by Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) (2016), Award of $1500, workshop attendance grant by NIHS, USA to attend the workshop titled: Environmental Health in Africa: Opportunities to Expand Research Capacity in the H3Africa Consortium, Kigali, Rwanda (2018) and Award of a full scholarship to attend the São Paulo State Advanced School on Integrated Water Resources Management at the International Institute of Ecology, Management and Water Resources, São Carlos, Brazil (2017). She has published her works in reputable journals and well-rated book chapters and presented her work in several local and international conferences. She is also an experienced facilitator of scientific workshops and seminars. She is an alumna of the Sao Paulo Advanced School on Integrated Water Resources Management (FAPSEP), Brazil. Dr. Ibukun deploys her professional exposure to the use of best research evidence in her teaching, mentoring, and research engagements, being an enthusiast of science communication and evidence-based informed policymaking. She is passionately committed to using her research evidence to influence policies for improved environmental and public health and increase the space for women and girls in science.
