Professor Okoya who is on sabbatical leave at University of Medical Sciences (2022-2023) graduated with first class honours degree in the Mathematics Department from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University-OAU), Ife, in 1983. Subsequently he earned M.Sc. and Ph.D. (Mathematics) from the same University in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He joined the service at OAU as a Graduate Assistant in 1984, rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2003 and served as HOD (2008-2011). He is a member of Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS) and American Mathematical Society. He served NMS as the Treasurer (2006-2011), Editor–in–Chief, Journal (2011-2022) and Editor, Notices (2016-2022). He is the first occupier of Pastor E. A. Adeboye Endowed Professorial Chair, UNILAG (2013-2017). He was a TWOS Associate (1997-1999) in Chennai, India while between 2001-2006 he was a Regular Associate to Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy.
