I am Adekunle Mustapha, a Professor of Medicine and honorary Consultant Neurologist at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) and its affiliated teaching Hospital Ondo state, Nigeria respectively with research interests in Neuroepidemiology and psycho-social aspects of neurological diseases such as epilepsy and stroke.
I graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1995 with a Bachelor degree in Medicine & Surgery (MB; BS).I had my residency training in Internal Medicine between 1998-2005 at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and later at the University College Hospital Ibadan where I had my sub-specialty training in neurology under the tutelage of Professor Adesola Ogunniyi, a leading Neurologist in Nigeria. I became board-certified by the National postgraduate medical college of Nigeria in 2005 after passing all the required examinations and currently hold the Fellowship of the Medical College of Physicians (FMCP).
I also completed a Masters degree in Neuroepidemiology and tropical parasitology at the University of Limoges France between 2012 and 2013.
In the quest to deepen my knowledge in Neurology, I had further exposure to neurology techniques and practice at the Neurodiagnostic unit of the University of Tennessee Memphis U.S in 2010 and subsequently took part in a two-month clinical rotation in Neurology at the University of Magdeburg teaching hospital, Magdeburg Germany in 2012.I also completed a 2-month certificated training programme in EEG/Epilepsy at the University Hospitals Cleveland Ohio USA between July and September 2022.
I won the 2009 American Academy of Neurology (AAN) International Scholarship which enabled me to take part in the 61st Annual meeting of the AAN in Seattle Washington USA. I won the travel fellowship of the World Federation of Neurology five times. I have won several other awards both in Nigeria and internationally. I have attended several conferences all over the world and I am a member of many prestigious Neurological Organizations including The American Academy of Neurology, World Federation of Neurology and the Nigerian Society of Neurological sciences.
I have published more than 35 scientific articles and written chapters in two different books. In addition, I am also bilingual with excellent fluency in both English and French.
