ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

B.Sc. Anatomy is a four academic sessional program with each session      divided into two semesters.  All courses offered in the Department are core courses and must be passed by the student who intends to graduate from the department.

ORGANISATION OF PROGRAMME

A program of study is provided leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Human Anatomy that may be awarded only as with Honours or as pass degree.

Instruction for the program is organized into courses and each student is required to register for not less than 18-credit units and not more than 24 credits per semester.  There are four levels of course organization numbers.

     100            -           199

     200            -           299

     300            -           399

     400            -           499

The first digit indicates year of study, the two middle digits indicate area of study while the last digit indicates the semester in which the course is offered. Course numbers are prefixed by a three character discipline code e.g. BIO, ANA, CMT, MAS, GES, PSC.

The normal period of the Bachelor’s degree in anatomy is four academic sessions while the maximum period shall be 50% above the number of academic sessions.

Objective

OBJECTIVES

The Bachelor degree programme in Human Anatomy is designed to produce functional graduates that are employable either by government, private establishments or self-employed. We have taken into consideration, the pressing need to refocus the curricular in other to meet with the needs of our immediate environment as well as the need to check the intractable problem of unemployment, poverty, and brain drain.

The programme is designed to attract a lot of research opportunities for the students. Thus, the students shall be provided with adequate and intensive training in Cell and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Biochemistry, and other relevant courses in the Natural Sciences.

Specifically, the Human Anatomy courses provide the undergraduate students with the basic knowledge of several sub-disciplines of Anatomy, including, Museum and Mortuary Science, Genetics and Teratology, Anthropometry, Comparative Anatomy, Basic Histopathology, Radiological Anatomy, Anatomical and Histological Techniques. Core courses in other areas of biomedical sciences were included to ensure a broad area of knowledge upon which the students can build a research career.

In the bid to achieve these noble objectives, we have laid down standards via the incorporation and subsequent review of mechanisms that will stand the test of time.
