Welcome Page

I wish to warmly welcome you to the Department of Microbiology. This Department is an offshoot of the Department of Biological Sciences which created in 2015 at the inception of UNIMED, and became a stand-alone Department in October 2022. The Department is blessed with world-class faculties who are dedicated to cutting-edge multidisciplinary teaching and research methods.

While maintaining academic excellence, we open the doorway to a global education that prepares Microbiologist for the increasingly competitive international labour force.

Of a truth, there are diverse spectra of microorganisms all around us which work together to make our world a beautiful place to live. So, microbes are our friends and not our foes. And in the Department of Microbiology, we illuminate this invisible world of microbes around us.

With our uninterrupted calendar and seasoned academia, we all are committed to enabling your success. I am certain that the years ahead are promising and would be replete with success. Once again, welcome to the Department of Microbiology of the first specialized medical school in Nigeria.

Objective

OBJECTIVES

The specific learning objectives that all Biological Science Majors are expected to know at graduation are the:

1. Ability to read, understand, and critically interpret the primary biological

and biomedical literature in his/her area of interest.

2. Basic sciences (i.e., mathematics, statistics, physics, general and organic

chemistry) necessary for upper-level biological science coursework.

3. Terminology, principles and ability to explain the fundamental biomedical

processes of metabolism, homeostasis, reproduction, development, and

genetics, and the relationships between form and function of biological

structures at the molecular, cellular, organismal, population, and ecosystem levels of the biological hierarchy.

4. Fundamental methods, procedures, and techniques for conducting

experimental and empirical research.
