The Department of Preventive Dentistry at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Nigeria comprises of two units - Community Dentistry and Periodontics. Although the Department of Preventive Dentistry comes with recent history, we are already making giant strides by uplifting the Department to a prime position in the dental specialties of Community Dentistry and Periodontics.
Our Department places a high premium on personnel (faculty, staff) and students training, and relationship development based on trust, openness, innovation, and dynamism. Our educational philosophy creates an exciting environment where sound, up-to-date clinical knowledge, skills acquisition, and practice delivery in diagnosing, preventing and controlling of common oral diseases occurs. We anticipate that our graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and vital clinical skills needed to compete with the very best dentists nationally and globally.

OBJECTIVES
1. To provide a high level of clinical training in the specialty of Periodontology, dental implants, and to ensure a high level of training in the specialty of community dentistry.
2. To develop dental practitioners who are able to understand the oral health needs and demands of their communities and to plan appropriate oral health services.
3. To provide extensive outreach programs that brings quality services and preventive education to patients in need of dental care.
4. To conduct cutting edge research in the department and increase the number of published papers in refereed journals.
5. To develop and activate the social and public services in the role of raising the awareness of oral and dental diseases.
