CeHPBE was established in December 2021 following its approval by the University Senate. The overall objective is to drive effective teaching and learning in the University through relevant curricula and innovative technologies.
Management Board
The Centre shall have a Management Board chaired by the Vice-Chancellor (Academic). The Board will provide strategic directions of the Centre.
Vision of CeHPBE
To be a regional Centre of excellence in health professions and biomedical education and contribute substantially to furthering health profession education globally.
Mission of CeHPBE
To facilitate innovative approach in learning and teaching, advance research in health professions education, and foster best practices in curricular development and delivery.

Provision of expertise and conducting trainings in health professions and biomedical education at institutional, national and international levels.
Monitoring and assessing the quality of teaching and the effectiveness, efficiency and feasibility of student learning as well as monitoring compliance of programmes with accreditation requirements and best practices for optimal learning outcomes.
Facilitating prompt curriculum development that complies with global best standards and supporting regular, periodic curriculum review at institutional level and beyond.
Catalyzing and fostering a culture of educational research and evidence utilization, and promoting further establishment and expansion of health professions education as a scientific field of study.
Supporting optimal teaching and learning through the development of innovative and engaging learning resources.
6. Management of UNIMED’s Specialized Educational Facilities:
Operationalisation and day-to-day management of the Simulation and Clinical Skills Centres, the audio-visual studios and other specialized education facilities of the University.
7. Provision of Technical Support:
Provision of technical advice and support to academic Units and the University leadership on provision of relevant learning and teaching facilities as well as curricula development, review and delivery and other activities that will contribute to optimal teaching and learning.
8. Networking and Partnership-building:
Establishing local, national, regional and international linkages and building partnerships to foster the development of health professions and biomedical education in UNIMED and beyond.
9. Other responsibilities:
Undertaking other activities and responsibilities relevant to its vision and missions as directed and/or approved by the University leadership.
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is calling for application for its National Research Fund (NRF) 2020 grants cycle. Up to N7.5 billion will be disbursed for the current 2020 NRF Grants cycle. Assessing the 2020 NRF grants involves a twostep process 1. Submission of Concept-Notes by Principal Investigators (PI) of the proposed research projects, 2. Submission of full proposals of research projects based on concept notes that been evaluated and considered fundable. The fellowship offers a three (3) to nine (9)-month placement at a leading research institution in Europe or Africa, with additional support of up to a maximum of £38,000 at the home institution of the fellows before and after the placement,. The fellowship is open to research active post-doctoral scientists and clinicians who are nationals of and employed in Sub-Saharan Africa who were awarded their doctorate after May 2014; and clinicians without a doctorate but who have a research-relevant Master’s degree and at least two and up to seven years active research experience.
