The Centre for Molecular Bioscience and Molecular Bioscience and Medical Genomics, a university-wide resource hub, was established in 2020 for research, teaching, and the provision of services, especially medical diagnosis and scientific entrepreneurship.
Molecular Biosciences and Medical Genomics together incorporates the study of molecular biology, genetics, and genomics, to describe molecular structures and mechanisms; identify fundamental molecular variations in inherited diseases and determine determinants of virulence and susceptibility in a wide variety of infectious processes as well as to detect clinically relevant molecular markers. The knowledge of the rapid advances in genomics in the last decade has brought about benefits and challenges in healthcare.
UNIMED, a tertiary institution focused on health is uniquely positioned to bring this domain of medicine and health care to Ondo state and environs. The Centre of Molecular Bioscience and Medical Genomics will therefore provide a workforce capable of utilizing these advances to forge new research areas and apply genomics knowledge in clinical practice and policy. It will also facilitate research and innovation as well as enhance entrepreneurship at the university.
The Centre of Molecular Bioscience and Medical Genomics is committed to utilizing these advances to forge new research areas, apply genomics knowledge in clinical practice and public health. The ultimate goal is to facilitate research and innovation for societal transformation (reaching the local people with interventions/prevention of disease) and policy.
The Centre is underpinned by the philosophy that by the application of innovation and technologies derived from the domains of molecular bioscience and medical genomics, we will directly contribute to the research and economic development of our university, and to the population in Ondo and across Nigeria, through improved health, well-being, and quality of life.

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is calling for application for its National Research Fund (NRF) 2020 grants cycle. Up to N7.5 billion will be disbursed for the current 2020 NRF Grants cycle. Assessing the 2020 NRF grants involves a twostep process 1. Submission of Concept-Notes by Principal Investigators (PI) of the proposed research projects, 2. Submission of full proposals of research projects based on concept notes that been evaluated and considered fundable. Deadline for submission of concept notes is 21 July 2021 For more information on eligibility, thematic areas and how to apply, download the Grant Guide Africa Research Excellence Fund Research Development Fellowship 2020 The AREF Research Development Fellowship (RDF) Programme is being launched to support African researchers who are working on important challenges for human health in Africa. The fellowship offers a three (3) to nine (9)-month placement at a leading research institution in Europe or Africa, with additional support of up to a maximum of £38,000 at the home institution of the fellows before and after the placement,. The fellowship is open to research active post-doctoral scientists and clinicians who are nationals of and employed in Sub-Saharan Africa who were awarded their doctorate after May 2014; and clinicians without a doctorate but who have a research-relevant Master’s degree and at least two and up to seven years active research experience. Deadline for application is 12:00 GMT 23 September 2020.
