Welcome

We are delighted to welcome you to the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation (CEDI) within our prestigious medical university. This centre established following the recommendation of the National Universities Commission (NUC) is a beacon of innovation, where students and staff converges with entrepreneurial spirit to revolutionize healthcare.

 

 

 

At CEDI, our focus is to train UNIMED staff as well as students to be global innovators that will become job creators rather than job seekers.

We aim to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to develop innovative solutions to pressing healthcare challenges.

The centre has a state-of-the-art Innovation HUB facilities with relevant technological tools such as 3-D printer, Virtual Reality devices and other technological collections.

 

 

Goal: The goal of the centre is to institutionalize the development of medical entrepreneurship and innovation through technical training, teaching research, networking and advocacy, as well as collaboration with the private sector and government.

Objectives

 

i.            enable the staff and students to be able to transform their creative ideas into innovation in-line with modern technological innovative age.

 

ii.           ensure staff and students are capable of addressing perceived market need for medical related business startups and spinouts.

 

 

iii.         teach staff and students the necessity of how to write a standard business plan to enhance maximum success in their proposed medical centric business towards becoming job creators.

 

iv.         coordinate medical entrepreneurship training and mentorship.

 

 

v.          collaborate with clinicians, researchers, and industry experts in the development and prototyping of innovative Medical device.

 

Our mission: To unlock the medical entrepreneurial creative ideas, in students, staff and operators of small and medium enterprises, through training and other interventions, to enable them develop sustainable enterprises by utilizing mutually rewarding partnership with the private sector, policy-makers and non-government organizations committed to economic growth, poverty alleviation and sustainable development.

 

 

Core competencies: Building human capital; unlocking ideas in people through training, research and consultancy; developing a portfolio of relevant competencies and; creating innovation through product-prototyping and process improvement.

Grant Opportunities

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is calling for application for its National Research Fund (NRF) 2020 grants cycle. Up to N7.5 billion will be disbursed for the current 2020 NRF Grants cycle. Assessing the 2020 NRF grants involves a twostep process 1. Submission of Concept-Notes by Principal Investigators (PI) of the proposed research projects, 2. Submission of full proposals of research projects based on concept notes that been evaluated and considered fundable. Deadline for submission of concept notes is 21 July 2021 For more information on eligibility, thematic areas and how to apply, download the Grant Guide Africa Research Excellence Fund Research Development Fellowship 2020 The AREF Research Development Fellowship (RDF) Programme is being launched to support African researchers who are working on important challenges for human health in Africa. The fellowship offers a three (3) to nine (9)-month placement at a leading research institution in Europe or Africa, with additional support of up to a maximum of £38,000 at the home institution of the fellows before and after the placement,. The fellowship is open to research active post-doctoral scientists and clinicians who are nationals of and employed in Sub-Saharan Africa who were awarded their doctorate after May 2014; and clinicians without a doctorate but who have a research-relevant Master’s degree and at least two and up to seven years active research experience. Deadline for application is 12:00 GMT 23 September 2020.
