Welcome Page

I hereby welcome you to the official website of the Department of Community Health Nursing in the Faculty of Nursing Science, University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Ondo. Community health nursing is very essential to the health and welfare of the Community.

It combines primary healthcare and nursing practice in the community settings. The healthcare workforce is becoming more diverse which is one the biggest changes in nursing and this is a benefit to patients/clients. Nurses with similar cultural backgrounds with the communities they serve, know how to respect and communicate more effectively. There is a growing need for more registered nurses in public health/community health nursing.

Incorporating public health concepts into nursing programmes improves the health outcomes of the community. It takes patience, advanced communication skills, organization and political understanding to work in community nursing. Therefore, the Community Health Nursing Department is poised to address the challenges of scarce human resources for the overall wellbeing of people in the various primary health care settings. This can be achieved by producing public health nurses who will be able to produce quality service globally.
