INTRODUCTION

The Department of Physiotherapy is constituted as one of the core disciplines in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Medical Sciences, set up to advance the course of training of physiotherapists, pursue research and research training that is translated into evidenced based physiotherapy practice.

The Department of Physiotherapy is aimed to serve as a centre of excellence for research as well as  academic and professional training of physiotherapy students, who will be worthy in learning and character to practice physiotherapy profession in Nigeria and in any part of the World.



OBJECTIVES

To be a nationally and internationally recognized centre of excellence in the training of physiotherapy students who will be sufficiently empowered to;

i)             Provide physiotherapeutic services in the health care sector and the community;

ii)          Carry out quality research and developmental activities as a means to promote knowledge, patients’ care and professional enhancement;

iii)         Acquire, develop and maintain rapport with professional colleagues, patients, their relatives and members of the health care team; and

iv)     Acquire knowledge in health policies, health management, global health issues and socio-cultural health issues.

               NEWS AND EVENT

1. Emeritus Professor of Physiotherapy Joseph A. Balogun, co-taught the 200 level Physiotherapy students in some aspects of PHT 221- Introduction into Physiotherapy Profession course. Emeritus Prof. Balogun who earned his first degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Ibadan is a Distinguished University Professor in the College of Health Sciences at Chicago State University, USA. He was primarily in the University to present a two-day workshop titled “Best Practices in Academic/Clinical Department Administration and Scholarship Discovery” which was held July 9-10, 2018.

 

2. The Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB) which regulates the training and practice of Physiotherapy and other related health care professions in Nigeria visited the Department of Physiotherapy from 5th-7th September, 2018 for Resource Verification/ Pre-accreditation.
