On behalf of the Governing Board of the School of Public Health, I warmly welcome you to the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo. The School is located at the Bolorunduro Campus of the University. It is the first stand-alone school of Public health in Nigeria. The mission is “to develop visionary and innovative leaders for evidence based health systems delivery to advance public health locally and globally”. The Vision is “to be a leading School of Public Health in the African region that shapes healthcare policies and practices” Our goal is to build human resource capacity within West African region for implementing high quality training and applied research for health professionals to tackle policies and programs for strengthening health systems and reducing the region’s high burden of ill-health and disability.
The School runs by Departments, Institutes and Centers. The structure of the School as at present includes the Departments (Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health, Health Policy and Management, Population, Family and Reproductive Health and the Department of Health Promotion & Behavioural Sciences); and the Institute(Institute for Community Health Innovation and Development). The Centers include the Centre for Adolescent Health and Development, Centre for Data Science and Health Metrics, Centre for Global Health and Health Security, Centre for Injury Science and Control, the Maternal, Reproductive, and Child Health (MARCH) Centre, and the Centre for Bioethics, Gender and Health Equity.
Though Public Health is essentially a postgraduate .enterprise. The School shall oversee and accommodate some undergraduate programmes as decided by the management of the University. The School was built on the six pillars of Science, Education, Partnership, People and Power, Research and Community service. Once again, I welcome you to the first School of Public Health to be established by any specialized medical University in the whole of Africa. You are welcome to our beautiful campus, and I wish you an amazing time and a successful academic programme with us.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH OBJECTIVES
a) Training of students and technical experts/policymakers through short courses on relevant public health and health policy topics in the region: Few undergraduates, PGDs, Masters and PhD courses; and regular and short term, and credit base trainings
b) Develop capacity for applied research to address the health challenges in the region and to enable publication by indigenous practitioners of high quality papers in leading international journals.
c) Provide public health services and consultancies to guide the administration of public health in the region.
