It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the first specialized Medical University in Nigeria, the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Ondo State. Our mission is to build a Centre of Excellence that will empower graduates capable of translating their acquired academic knowledge in various fields of Medical Sciences into applied research skills that will facilitate the reduction of disease burden and improvement of health care in Nigeria and the world, at large.
The Health Information Management Department was established at the commencement of the 2020/2021 academic session in the university and we have produced our first set of graduates for the B.Sc. Conversion Programme in the Department at the end of 2021/2022 academic session. The B.Sc. Conversion programme runs for 6 semesters (3 semesters per session) and shall run for Two (2) academic sessions.
We take pride in UNIMED as the first specialized university in Nigeria which has a community of staff that offers a serene, productive and uninterrupted academic calendar. You can be rest assured to finish your programme in due course.
The Department is headed by the Ag. HOD, Dr Kayode ADEPOJU, who is also a Senior Lecturer at the University. The Prospective candidates should apply online on the University website (www.unimed.edu.ng).
I want to use this opportunity to appreciate the VC, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, for his love and encouragement leading to the actualization of Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standard (CCMAS) for Health Information Management (HIM) Programme, by the National University Commission (NUC). This is the first of such accomplishment by any university in Nigeria. The Bachelor degree programme in Health Information Management (BHIM) is designed to foster the development of professional Health Information Management practice in Nigeria, and to provide candidates with high level of intellectual and professional skills that will enable them function effectively in the society.
Specifically, the programme is intended to:
· provide prospective Health Information Management Officers with the intellectual and professional background adequate for their assignments and to make them adaptable to any changing situations within the Health Care Industry.
· provide high skilled manpower for leadership positions in Nigeria Health Industry
· produce highly qualified and motivated personnel for the Information Management Industry
