The Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, Professor Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to usher in a new era of institutional peace, renewed academic focus, and transformative development in the institution.
Addressing journalists in Ondo on Thursday, Professor Adejuyigbe, who is the third substantive and first female Vice Chancellor of the University, disclosed that her leadership would prioritise the strengthening of academic and research programmes, alongside infrastructural development and staff welfare.
According to her, “We are committed to expanding and improving academic and basic amenities across the University estate and enhancing staff welfare and capacity development.
“We will continue deepening industry and community partnerships, driving innovation in health sciences education, and most importantly, improving the overall student experience.
“To our students, you are the heart of this University. I promise to walk this journey with you, as a leader, a teacher, and a mother,” she said.
The Vice Chancellor emphasised that her administration would be defined by responsible leadership, collaborative engagement, and a shared vision geared towards advancing UNIMED to global prominence.
“This is a time of unity, renewed energy, and purposeful progress. With God on our side and with collective resolve, we will elevate UNIMED to global prominence as a leading centre of excellence in medical and health sciences education,” she said.
Describing her appointment as a sacred responsibility, she noted that she had embraced the role with “humility, reverence, and great hope for what lies ahead.”
She continued, “The light we now walk in: a vision for peace, progress, and transformation. This light represents a new beginning for UNIMED. It is a light of unity, healing, excellence, and shared purpose.
“I solemnly acknowledge the sovereignty of God over this assignment and joyfully dedicate this new term to His glory, wisdom, and guidance.”
Professor Adejuyigbe expressed her gratitude to the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the state government, and the Governing Council of UNIMED for the trust reposed in her.
“I do not take this appointment for granted, and I am committed to serving diligently, transparently, and with integrity,” she said.
She also extended her appreciation to the University’s Governing Council for its visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to institutional growth.
“I salute the dedication and sacrifices of the University Management—both present and past—whose tireless efforts have laid the foundation upon which we now stand. Your contributions have been instrumental in shaping UNIMED’s journey, and I am grateful for the legacy of excellence and service you have upheld,” she added.
The Vice Chancellor called on all stakeholders—staff, students, alumni, and partners—to join hands to foster progress and uphold peace within the University community.
“For without peace and unity, there can be little—or no—meaningful progress. We must therefore guard our harmony, nurture collaboration, and pursue our goals with one heart and one vision.
“My heartfelt prayer is that peace shall reign in every office, every classroom, and every heart. May peace dwell in Ondo town, Ondo State, and across our beloved Nigeria.
“Together, we now walk in the light, and with that light, we shall build,” she concluded.
