UNIMED to establish Faculty of Pharmacy

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, has affirmed that Pharmacy is central to medical and health service delivery in Nigerian, hence, the move by the University to establish a Faculty of Pharmacy.

Prof. Fatusi stated this on Tuesday while receiving members of a special committee drawn from all areas of organized pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences at a 3-day meeting held in the university.

He said the University is not interested in simply establishing a faculty of pharmacy but with the aim of repositioning pharmaceutical sciences and ensuring that patients get best result from medications.

‘I always remind myself that UNIMED stands for excellence in teaching, research and services and so our idea about building Faculty of Pharmacy is to build a one of a kind Faculty of Pharmacy that will lead in innovation and will show the way, even to the existing universities on how pharmacy should be’, Fatusi stated.

‘One of our dreams is to be a one-stop institution for human resources development across all health and medical disciplines. This can’t be achieved without pharmacy because when a patient comes in for treatment, there is need for drugs or injection, so we need to introduce pharmacy’, he added.

The Vice-Chancellor led the team of experts on a visit to the Osemawe and Paramount Ruler of Ondo Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, Jilo III where they were given grand reception.

The Monarch expressed confidence in the team of Pharmacists from different Universities across Nigeria under the leadership of Prof. Fola Tayo, Pro-Chancellor, Caleb University.
