The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Ondo State has been ranked by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) as the 19th best University in Nigeria.

The latest ranking, released on Monday, December 13, 2021, was carried out using twelve indicators to rate one hundred and thirteen (113) federal, state and private universities across the country.

The University was rated 3rd best among specialized (Medicine, Science, Technology) universities in the country, coming behind the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Oyo State.

UNIMED also came 4th among all state-owned universities after LAUTECH, Edo University and Lagos State University (LASU); 2nd best of all the seven (7) public and private universities located in Ondo State, coming after FUTA; and the first among all the three Ondo State-owned universities.

The institutions were ranked based on the total number of full-time students, number of international students, students and staff ratio, efficiency, google scholar index and contribution to knowledge economy.

Other criteria include; percentage of international staff, percentage of Programmes with full-time accreditation, research citations per capital, amongst others.

This is a cheering news for the University community given that UNIMED is less than seven years old.
