UNIMED Receives Accreditation for Nursing

The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Ondo State has received full accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery  Council of Nigeria (NMCN) for the Bachelor of  Nursing Sciences programme.

The full accreditation status is for a period of five (5) years with a yearly intake of Seventy-Five (75) students, after which the Department will be reassessed.

The approval was conveyed in a letter which was addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, by the Secretary-General and Registrar of the Council, Faruk Umar Abubakar, on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

The yearly intake of Seventy-Five (75) students, as approved by the NMCN, represent a fifty percent (50%) increase in the total number of candidates that will be admitted for the programme in subsequent academic sessions.

This development follows the visit of members of the Council to the University in February 2021 and it means that Nursing Students of the University who are presently in 500 level will graduate as and when due.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi praised the NMCN for promoting and maintaining excellence in nursing education and practice while promising that the University will not rest her oars in championing quality health sciences education.

He appreciated and felicitated the Visitor and Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for his unflinching support to the University, saying his commitment led to the feat.

Fatusi also lauded the Governing Council under the leadership of the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Temitayo Fawehinmi, the Management, Senate, Staff and Students of UNIMED on the notable achievement.

He recognized the efforts of the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Science, Dr. Bridget Akin-Otiko and other members of the Faculty for the team spirit which culminated in the accreditation of the programme.
